Disney Is Predicting That Star Wars: The Last Jedi Will Open To $200 Million In The US

Disney is looking at a big opening for Star Wars: The Last Jedi in the United States. They’re predicting the film will make $200 million in its opening weekend.

We all know that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is going to make a lot of money, and I mean A LOT. It’s easily going to be the biggest film of 2017 and no film will come close to touching it. At the moment Beauty and the Beast top the 2017 box office domestic chart, raking in an impressive $504 million, yet Star Wars: The Last Jedi is, according to Deadline, looking to make almost half of that in its opening weekend.

Rian Johnson’s film is the most anticipated movie of 2017 and Deadline is reporting that the film is tracking to make $200 million in the US alone in its opening weekend. To put that into context, Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended up making $247.96 million in its opening weekend in the US. The Last Jedi could very well end up matching or even surpassing that number, yet it might not happen since sequels don’t tend to make as much money as their predecessors. The release of The Force Awakens was a monumental occasion and people went to see J.J. Abrams’ movie in their droves and then went to see it again and again. I know I did. However, this is Star Wars we’re talking about, so people will want to do the same thing with The Last Jedi.

Rian Johnson’s film also looks like it’s really pushing the boundaries of the franchise and venturing into thematic areas that no Star Wars movie has ever explored before. The fact that Lucasfilm has already announced that Johnson will be heading up a new Star Wars trilogy is testament to the fact that they are more than happy with his work on The Last Jedi. I cannot wait to see this film, which is shaping up to be the very best Star Wars movie of all time.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be coming to UK cinemas on December 14th. Will you be seeing The Last Jedi on opening night? Let us know in the comments below.
