Not All The Star Wars Films Will Be Made Available To Watch On Disney Plus At Launch

Disney Plus isn’t that far off from launch now, and we’ve just found out that not all the Star Wars films will be made available at launch.

When Disney announced their streaming service, Disney Plus, I was – like everyone – pretty excited to see what it was going to be and what they would put on there.

I was especially interested to see whether they would put up all the Star Wars films, as well as some of the movies they procured from their recent acquisition of 20th Century Fox.

I was rather looking forward to binge-watching all the Star Wars films (in chronological order – not the machete order) before the release of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker in December.

I do own most of the Star Wars films on Blu-ray, yet I was holding out on buying Solo: A Star Wars Story because, firstly, I didn’t think the film was all that great, and secondly, I thought it would be available to watch on Disney Plus.

Turns out, Solo won’t be made available to stream on launch, and it won’t be on the streaming service until after the release of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker.

I’m pretty sure I know why they’ve opted to do this. Solo did OK at the box office – it did pretty well, but not quite as well as the previous Star Wars films – and I think they’re trying to get as much money out of Blu-ray sales as they can before The Rise Of Skywalker comes out.

They know that a lot of people would be interested in doing a marathon viewing session of all the Star Wars films prior to going to the cinema to watch the latest addition to the Star Wars saga.

It’s actually quite canny of them to do it this way, yet they also won’t make Star Wars: The Last Jedi available to stream right away, which I was really hoping they would.

I’m of the belief that The Last Jedi is one of the best Star Wars films ever made, and I was hoping that it would be revisited by quite a few people before The Rise Of Skywalker hits the big screens and it would be seen for the great film it really is.

CNET did mention that Disney does plan to release Solo and The Last Jedi, along with The Rise Of Skywalker sometime in 2020, but they don’t say exactly when that will be.

In the meantime, you can purchase the Star Wars films over on Amazon.co.uk and have your own movie marathon.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker will be hitting UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
