Ben Affleck Says That He Wants To Direct A Batman Movie

Ben Affleck has been talking about his future in the DCEU yet again and revealed that he would like to direct a Batman movie at some point.

Will he stay or will he go? That’s the question that so many fans of the DCEU have been asking themselves in relation to Ben Affleck and whether or not he’ll be staying on as Batman. Affleck hasn’t been making this any easier for us. He’s constantly flip-flopping on his future in the DCEU. One moment he’s telling people how much he loves playing Batman and that he wants to play the role in another movie, and then the next he’s telling journalists how he wants to leave the role, or find a suitable way to say goodbye to the character. It’s all very confusing.

Here’s what’s been happening so far. Affleck was cast as Batman. Great. He then starred as the Caped Crusader in Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad and most recently Justice League. He was originally meant to write and direct his own solo Batman movie, but then stepped down as the writer/director and War For The Planet Of The Apes director, Matt Reeves, came on-board. There are subsequent grumblings that Ben Affleck wants out of the DCEU and in all honesty who could blame him?

However, in a recent interview with the Daily Sabah, the actor/director revealed that he would like to write and direct his own Batman movie. (I told you it’s confusing). “I always evaluate this stuff on the merit of the material. I want to direct a Batman movie, and I never got a script that I was happy with, so they are starting over and writing another script,” he said.

“And right now, I think a lot of different possibilities I think for the way the DC Universe could go, and I will just follow my interests in pursuing that. And I know that I love working with this group of people, and it was a real joy for me to make this movie,” he finished.

This is definitely the most positive Affleck has been about the future of the DCEU recently and it does make you wonder whether he will be staying on as Batman for the time being. That said, Matt Reeves’ Batman film is set to start production next year and there have been rumours that he already has Jake Gyllenhaal in mind to replace Affleck as Batman in that movie. This is making my brain hurt so I’m going to stop there.

What do you think of all of this? Should Affleck stay or should he go? Let us know in the comments below.
